But carbs make you fat?

It’s so hard to find yourself, listen to yourself and trust yourself when we are constantly bombarded with things in the media that people are simply just trying to make a profit out of really.. I think it’s important to knowledge yourself and trial these things first before setting your whole heart and soul into it and to find different aspects that you can take and transform them into something that works for you.  Basically my main concern with the current media is this craze with low carb diets.

Now before you stop reading I’m not going to try and convince you to eat high carb and cut out this and that, I really just want to stress the fact that you should not be trying to cut out or limit carbs completely because this comes with great health concerns, a healthy sustainable diet must incorporate carbohydrates.

So, Why are you binging? You are simply undercarbed, your body is craving and needing energy and it won’t stop until it gets it, and where does your body get it’s energy? FOOD, food is the bodies external source of fuel, you cannot restrict or deny a car it’s petrol when it needs it or when it is running low, it simply will not run as effectively or will break down..

Restricting and binging causes a great deal of stress on your body, it begins to confuse your body and metabolism and throw it out of whack, your body will begin to store whatever you eat rather than burning it off because it simply doesn’t know when it will get fed next for energy, so it stores anything it can get in case it runs out of energy again when the restricting cycle begins again.

No motivation? Part of a healthy diet is being active, I’m not saying you need to go to the gym or be a marathon runner, I’m talking simply just moving your body in any way that you enjoy. When you have no energy (no carbs left in the tank) this takes away your desire to move and get out there and get shit done! Not only in terms of being active but even in terms of everyday activities/tasks.. (I easily wake at 6am every morning ready to get out of bed and go for the day and I ensure that everyday I eat my carbs to provide me with a goodnights rest and motivation to get up in the morning.) Through all of this ‘undercarbedness’ you easily begin to become inactive and unmotivated (our desire and drive to achieve day to day activities, tasks, challenges etc..) resulting in achieving less which then goes to affect your mental health and you can become down and depressed and struggle to deal with and handle your emotions, you start sleeping poorly and this cycle just continues!

But do loose weight cutting out carbs? Yes you can loose weight short term on a low carb diet through loosing water weight. Your body requires 3grams of water for every gram of carbohydrate stored, so if you’re cutting your carb intake your body requires less water. Though this isn’t a good thing, we want fat loss not water loss! Water hydrates the body, it boosts the metabolism, boosts energy, flushes out toxins, aids in concentration,  regulates your body temperature, makes up 75% of your muscles, 83% of blood and 22% of bones, it helps your body to absorb and carry nutrients and the list goes on.

So how do we get fat loss? Simply eat less fat rich foods, including your healthy fats, healthy fats are greater processed by the body than saturated fats and obviously provide great essential vitamins and minerals, so by no means eliminate fat but fat should be getting reduced rather than carbohydrates, carbs are our first energy sources and are the most easily digested so it only makes sense to have more energy from the food you’re eating and less energy spent digesting it, resulting in greater energy for you to have and use.  By no means do we want to limit that and have water loss instead.

When we have those binges, not even just binges, but even if we start adding in more carbs gradually and some carbs begin to come back into the body, the body requires more water for the carbohydrate storage so the weight comes back anyway and if this cycle continues your weight will continue to fluctuate and again confuse your body!

Based on above a low carb diet is clearly not a sustainable lifestyle LONG TERM, eventually you will binge on food or begin to become unmotivated, inactive and unhappy and gradually gaining the weight back.. and possibly more because remember you’ve slowed do your metabolism and your body is storing everything it can get! And plus you’ve only lost water weight so that’ll come back almost immediately and extremely easily.  Why would you put your poor body that works so hard to get the best out of each day through that, through so much pressure and stress, fuel your body so you can get the best out of yourself, treat your body right and it’ll be able to treat you right in return, it makes sense doesn’t it?

And remember the fat that we eat is the fat that we wear, fat = fat.. even healthy fats, if you look it up a lot of ‘expert’s’ recommend   limiting all fats and having portion control with healthy fats, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the 14 almond limit, but just find what works for you and don’t eliminate carbs completely because they aren’t the devil, our bodies do need them!

Knowledge is power, use your own mind to interpret it based on who you are, don’t let others influence you, be yourself, take what you want from this post and all of my others and form your own opinion and speak it!
